Farming and Food Trail

A journey for those who want to get their hands in the soil and their minds around how our food is truly grown, this weekend offers a rich mix of learning and connection across regenerative farming and food production.

Saturday 6 December: Soil, systems and heritage

Your journey into food production begins on Saturday morning with a deep dive into sustainable design.

  • Begin your weekend at Permaculture in the Paddock for an insightful tour through a working property. Here, you’ll see the ethics and design principles of permaculture in action—from compost systems to companion planting and animal integration.

  • Afterward, the pace shifts to a more relaxed, family friendly rhythm at The Gump Farm for their Farm Play Session, where visitors can experience the fun and rhythm of daily farm life up close.

  • The afternoon takes a step back in time. Join a guided Farm Tour at Tocal Homestead, exploring historic farming methods and how they have evolved into today’s sustainable practices.

  • To finish your educational day, head to In Our Hands Family Farm. Their Beekeeping Demonstrations offer a fascinating look at these essential pollinators and the small-scale systems that keep their hives healthy and productive.

Sunday 7 December: Harvest, fungi and fibre

Sunday starts with the most hands on experience of the weekend.

  • Join the growers for a Morning Harvest at In Our Hands Family Farm, picking produce straight from the garden beds, connecting you directly to the food you eat.

  • Staying on site, visit The Pickled Patch for their inspiring workshop: How to Grow Fabulous Funghi Anywhere. Learn low tech mushroom cultivation techniques and the principles of soil regeneration.

  • The morning continues at In Our Hands Family Farm with a Food Forest Tour, exploring a thriving edible ecosystem designed for abundance and resilience.

Before you round out your weekend, be sure to treat yourself with exquisite Goat Milk Gelato from local farmer Ballimore Farm – the perfect midday refreshment.

  • The weekend draws to a gentle close at Gumnut Valley Alpacas. You’ll meet the herd and learn about these gentle animals and the fibre they provide – the ideal soft landing after a weekend immersed in the world of regenerative farming.
